Description
This late nineteenth century coat stand originated from the Black Forest. Carved in the manner of a tree with two bears, the mother at the base and her cub climbing upwards. The outset branches form arms for hats and coats to be hung. Very finely carved with lovely details including the glass eyes and teeth. A lovely creation bearing all of the quality of traditional Black Forest. Both bears have lovely glass eyes and the large bear still retains much of the colouring of the mouth, teeth and nose. An excellent example of the turn of the century Brienz Swiss carving in linden wood. There are many Swiss carvers well known for carving certain subjects and Seilar-Brawant is known for carving bears
