Description
Clockwise is delighted to offer for sale a fine example of an extremely collectable clock. This Great Eastern Railway eight inch oak cased fusee railway wall clock contains a rectangular-plated chain-driven English fusee movement with screwed pillars, supplied to the G.E.R circa 1900. The movement has just benefitted from a full overhaul so is guaranteed for three years. The original dial has been repainted post 1948 by the clock workshops at Doncaster and now displays B.R(E) 2096 with many identification marks to its history notated to the dial rear.
The oak case is of standard two piece design with the front surround attached to the back box by four original and matching pegs. There is a side door (with latch) with the G.E.R ivorine numberplate 2096 screwed onto the inside and a bottom door secured with a brass turn-key. The spun brass bezel is in excellent condition and frames the almost immaculate dial perfectly. The L.N.E.R clock records show this clock as last in use at Whitemoor Goods Office.
This clock comes complete with it's original key and a copy of the L.N.E.R clock record for provenance. This is a stunning piece of furniture, railwayana and an antique clock all in one with virtually no others in this condition available for sale.
