Early Victorian brass bound rosewood jewellery box equally suitable for use by a lady or gentleman. Unspoilt patina. No missing or replaced veneer. Original inlaid brass corner pieces, cartouche and escutcheon. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass stop hinges. Original lock with a replacement working key. Original leather fronted panel to the lid interior featuring subtle tooled borders free of tears and complete with the original pull tab and swing clasp. When the clasp is released the panel folds forward to reveal the original marble paper to the back of the panel and a recessed area that would have originally accommodated a removable mirror…..Could be used to store a passport/photographs/letters etc or could of course get a mirror cut at very little cost. The base section comprises of the original removable tray constructed with solid mahogany with all of the original dividers. The two lids have replacement brass ring handles. The 13 storage sections are ideal for small items of jewellery. The storage section below features twin dividers that can be removed/replaced to suit various storage requirements….ideal for those larger/longer items. The jewellery shown is not included in the sale and are shown to give a general idea re’ suitability of use by a gentleman. Compare the appearance and build quality of this box against the majority of modern produced jewellery boxes!! Recommended.
