Description
Offered for your consideration is this vintage Elgin American Beauty carry all vanity case dating circa 1950. The gold tone metal case slips into a black silk faille carrying case which has carry handle and a front pocket. The This front pocket opens and has two sections. One at the front for change or handkerchiefs and a shallower one which holds a faux tortoise shell comb.
The shiny, polished gold tone metal case measures 11 cm by 6.5cm and is 2.5cm deep. It has machine turned linear pattern with chased sides and a central oblong blank cartouche at the centre. It has firm catch and secure hinges. In the base are three compartments. One with unused, gold tone metal lipstick. The other two compartments have brushed gold tone hinged doors. One is marked American Beauty and this one opens to reveal an unused clean powder well with original sifter and American Beauty marked puff. The other opens to reveal a deep, empty well. Under the lid is a framed mirror.

condition
This vanity case is offered in what appears to be unused condition. It has no dents or dings and no metal tarnish. There are some black marks on the base perhaps from the black fabric carry case but I have not polished this. The fabric slip case is in good with no rips or tears and has a couple of spots of soiling to the front.
