Rare Antique Male Mannequin, Linen Covering

A very rare shop display male mannequin most likely dating from the early part of the twentieth century, perhaps circa 1910-1920's. The mannequin has an adjustable black painted wooden stand with a turned column and tripod legs, with no apparent woodworm damage. There is a black painted wooden egg shaped top finial with several bands of turning. The wooden neck part of the torse does appear to have a little more wear to its finish. This may imply that the stand and torso are of different ages, but it is difficult to be sure and they do work well together and look appropriate. The torso part also has a wooden base. This is a genuine old mannequin with a hard body, which has been covered with a thin layer of wadding and then a linen covering. The covering remains in good condition, with only a little very light staining in stripes, all around the body, but otherwise in clean condition. The piece is marked with the size “48” both on the linen covered torso and on the wood underneath the base of the body. The height of the mannequin at its lowest setting is about 57 inches (145 cm), and at is highest about 62.5 inches (159 cm). The chest measurement seems to be about 39 inches (100 cm), and the waist about 35 inches (89 cm). A rare mannequin for display in a period setting or shop and will provide a wonderful talking and focal point.
