Who and what to watch out for at Newark Antiques Fair

A highlight of the International Antiques & Collectors Fair calendar is an event which takes place six times a year in Newark. And with the latest instalment of this pivotal event taking place in August, it’s time to see what you need to look out for while attending.

Who will be at the fair?

As with all antiques fairs, Newark Antiques Fair will have many influential individuals in attendance. Stalls will be manned by a number of professional and amateur sellers so it is important that you consider your options carefully and give each relevant stall the attention it deserves.

A few of our sellers to mention that will have a stall at Newark Antiques Fair are Wilsons Antiques, Prestige Clocks and Phoenix Antiques.

Set out with an idea of the sort of items you are looking to buy or are interested in and keep an eye on social media for updates on any pivotal appearances or guests who might make an appearance.

Remember, there will be more than 2,500 stalls at this event which covers 84 acres so you need to come prepared!

What to look for?

As well as knowing who to look for, you also need to consider what to look for at this event. Love Antiques can provide you with access to genuine antiques at any time or place but if you want to source something yourself from the fair then we recommend considering the following popular areas.

Remember, the more popular the item the higher the competition though and this may affect the price which certain items sell for.

Jewellery:

Vaughan Antiques Diamond Bracelet

Always popular with both buyers and sellers, Costume/Vintage jewellery and antique items are always a popular hit. Whether you intend to wear them or merely display them at home, this is a great opportunity to find new pieces that you absolutely love.

Furniture:

Wilson's Antiques Bookcase

You’ll need to spare a thought for how you’ll transport these items home – especially if they’re on the larger side – but antique furniture is another key area of interest to be aware of. Look out for unique items from specific time periods and always check the condition thoroughly before you buy.

Trinkets and ornaments:

Martlesham Antiques Japanese Bronze of Two Tigers

The perfect additions to interiors of any style or design, antique ornaments and trinkets can be a fascinating purchase; especially if there is an interesting story behind it. Always check the authenticity of any claims and ask for evidence when reviewing these items though.

Equipment and tools:

Victorian, Silver Plated Boot Pin Cushion which doubles as a Vesta Case

A more specialist area, equipment and tools for times passed can be a really interesting find at antique fairs such as Newark. Once again, it is important to check the validity and authenticity of any claims being made about an item.

Artwork:

Everyone has their own unique tastes when it comes to art so why not look for vintage items at the antiques fair? You may find some interesting pieces and as tastes are more individualistic you could find some better deals.

Unique pieces:

Finally, look for unique pieces to really complete your collection at home. You’ll be surprised what you’ll find at these fairs with so many sellers and buyers visiting from around the world. The only way to truly find the best items to look for is to turn up and have a scout!
