Description
Absolutely magnificent antique Irish Georgian period walnut and leather armchair. This was made in Ireland, we would date it to around the 1750-1780 period. This is the finest example you could hope to see, widely copied and rarely seen in its original form. The solid walnut frame is exquisitely carved with eagle head motifs on the arm rests and also on the knees. The knees also have acanthus leaf carving, the cabriole shaped legs terminate in claw and ball feet. This has a gorgeous, sweeping shape to the frame and it is very comfortable. We have had the frame re-polished to a very high standard, and we have had it re-upholstered in hand coloured leather. The original horse hair stuffing remains inside the upholstery. The condition is excellent, this is a museum quality piece. Width 29 inches, 74cm Depth 26 inches, 66cm Height 42 inches, 107cm Seat Height 20 inches, 51cm
