Description
This is a good example of a handwoven woollen Kashgai carpet dating from around 1920. The carpet is quite finely woven compared to many of its type and has some interesting detailing. Although in typical Kashgai colours of madder red, indigo and ivory, the shades used are subtle and blend well together. The blue has a richness to it and the red is a lovely soft rust red. The design has lots of fine detail to it such as geometric floral motifs but also horse heads and some barber pole motifs. The deep borders are pretty with rows of stylised flowers. In soft and lustrous wool, this carpet has a nice soft handle and is in excellent condition. This is a great size measuring 256 cms by 157 cms.
