Description
Beautiful and very impressive antique Victorian mahogany breakfront bookcase. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1880-1900 period.
It is of superb quality and has lovely proportions. It is large and impressive, yet elegant with refined features. The doors on the upper and lower sides are quite narrow, there is adjustable shelving in the top cabinet and further shelving in the lower cabinet. There is beautiful carving throughout on the borders of the paneled doors, the cornice, the arched and pierced pediment, even on the beautifully shaped bracket feet. There is fantastic astral glazing on the doors of the upper section, and it is lined with a gorgeous patterned fabric.
This has been recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age, with some minor wear remaining beneath the polish. The mahogany has acquired a wonderful colour tone and patina.
This comes apart in two main sections for ease of transport, and the pediment can also be removed.
