a rare large sized and tasteful refined impressive English mahogany cylinder gentleman's library desk with ormolu mountings,and gallery top to the desk, with a well fitted sliding top interior with a green tooled leather writing surface, further fitted with ancillary secretary sliding slopes to the sides with matching gilt tooled leathers. It has a retailers / makers name stamped to Draw.H.Mawer and Stephenson, London. All locks working and supplied with keys. Their pieces of furniture of quality can be found in many English country houses in the care of the national trust collections and in major collections in the UK and beyond (matched pair available) this type of desks were greatly influenced by the desk made for Maria Antonieta by jean henry Reisener in the 18th Century, which followed through into the French Empire/Directories period. It has green tooled leather tops recently fitted to the desk and slides, slight signs of ware and useage consistent with its age.
