Description
A superb late 19th century mahogany writing desk by Edwards and Roberts of London, of excellent construction and with fine attention to detail. The superstructure with a pair of stationary cupboards flanking a central recess with an open fretwork gallery above. The main desk with a series of 7 drawers and a writing surface fitted with a sumptuous leather. The drawers retain their original solid brass handles and are decorated with blind fretwork carving. All standing on quadrafoil cluster column legs, with a pair of pull-out slides to the sides. Finished to the rear so could be free-standing within a room if desired.
Camden Antiques has clarified that the Edwards & Roberts Writing Desk (LA439512) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1890
