Description
This is a gorgeous Edwardian silver pot pourri box by the great William Comyns. This lovely piece is of circular shape with a pierced lid, featuring stylised leaves and a vacant central cartouche. The pull-off lid has a full hallmark, along with another full set to the base. The interior is richly gilded. Small pieces like this were used to scent cupboards or chests of drawers and were filled with violet, lavender, rose or other fragrant petals. They were also component parts of large travelling toiletry sets and are not easily found. A good collector's piece, both decorative and practical.
