Description
19th Century Victorian antique perfume bottle box in very fine condition. I will not use the word ‘original’ when referring to the various features of the box as aside from the replacement key (for decorative purposes only), Every aspect of the box is original. Extremely attractive grain to all aspects of the box. Amboyna is generally considered as one of The most attractive woods used on antique boxes and one that was a particular favourite of the French box makers in the Palais Royal region. Inlaid brass cartouche. Subtle cross grain and twin ebony strips to the edges. The lid closes perfectly square. Hinges and lock in excellent condition. Quite a few perfume bottle boxes have survived but to come across them still complete with the original interior and the original bottles in such condition is far more difficult. There can be little to doubt the originality of the bottles to the box given the indentations to the silk lining to the base section and the lid interior. All of the wood to the interior is in marvellous condition.
It is fair to state that this item has had very little use over the course of circa 150 years!! Highly recommended.
