Description
This fabulous eight day English fusee movement 'Bank' style mahogany clock with original bracket is an extremely rare piece from a famous maker. The 10" white dial is in excellent condition and signed 'F. Dent, 61, Strand, London no. 1472' dating the clock between 1857-60. The case has a door to each side, an applied foliate carved surround and is 18" high without the brackets and a similar width making it an imposing piece. The bezel has the original working lock and key and the movement has been recently overhauled and in excellent condition.
In 1841 the Dent family's revered ability to make the finest domestic timepieces brought the company a Royal Warrant as the official watch and clockmaker to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and Hrh Albert Prince of Wales. The Dent family also constructed 'Big Ben'.
