Mid 20th Century Marsh Arab Embroidered Wedding Blanket Rug - Wetlands of Southern Iraq

Marsh Arab embroidery, made in two sections and joined together vertically through the middle. Note the luminous vegetable dyed wool and the animals throughout its design. Fresh vibrant colours, not faded. An exhibition of these blankets was held at the nec birmingham as part of the festival of quilts in 2010. mid 20th century in date. Fantastic weaving of its type. in very good condition throughout and to the rear top end is a series of stitched on brass rings for hanging purposes. All woollen construction with chain and other stitches to form the embroidery.
