Modernist Pair of Chests

These are a pretty unique pair of oak chest of drawers following on from the Arts & Crafts and Cotswold school; Here we have a pair of high end, very classy, understated but very stylish chest of drawers. Note how the drawers hide the usual way that a drawer sits on the horizontal bearer. This is part of the design. Therefore the drawers are very carefully and skillfully constructed to obtain this feature. The moulding on the top and the curved drawer sides together with the highly unusual handles would draw one to believe this was all of the above. Please note . during this period of design many designers were aware of the progress using new materials . There were forward thinking designers and architects like ; Paul R Goldman ,Serge Chermayeff to name just two .Together with the use of materials like plywood new and exciting furniture designs were achieved.
