Description
Vintage Gentleman's railway type 'Robert' high grade 17 jewel pocket watch with beautiful ivory coloured dial in an extremely ornate silver chrome case which features a large locomotive/train to back cover. Looks to have been much loved and very well taken care of - her condition certainly reflects this. Full working order and is an excellent timekeeper (within +2/-2 minute per 24 hours). Fully checked and serviced by my highly experienced watchmaker and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic - a timepiece to grace any collection! Dial;- Impressive and distinctive high gloss, 'snowflake' white dial in mint condition - absolutely no hairlines, marks or fading. Signed clearly in bold black very fancy script; Robert and has a Trade symbol of a capital letter; R within a shield shaped cartouche above. Signed in black bold script below the centre; Antichoc 17 Jewels. Bold black scrolled Arabic numbers (note the lovely little 'arrow tip' to number 4) with black minute markers and red enamel Arabic numbers 13 - 24) forming the chapter ring. Finely cut, original black steel double spade hands and original black arrow tip sweep hand all in lovely straight, unmarked order. Original slightly domed crystal which is in exceptionally clear and bright order. Case;- The highly polished silver chrome 16 size case (4.7cm diameter / 6.4cm from top of bow to base, slim 8mm depth excluding the glass) has a pleasing solid feel in the hand and total watch weight is 54.7 grams. Wonderful bright condition (please excuse the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures, was extremely difficult to photograph) - absolutely no wear or indentations and just a few light little overall surface scratches commensurate with age and use in her 50+ years service. All covers (both inside and out) still retain their original, high gloss, mirror finish. The front bezel and back cover snap on and off correctly, closing tightly with a very reassuring click. Beautifully adorned to the back cover with a slightly frosted, large and detailed train/locomotive thundering down the tracks with smoke billowing. Movement;- The stem wound and set high grade 17 ruby jewelled, 3/4 plate movement is in superb clean and bright order and has just been checked/serviced by my highly experienced watch maker. Carries very attractive engine turning to the top plates - the detail of which remains as crisp and clear today as the day they were made. Stamped clearly on the top plates; 17 Jewels and is numbered; P2609. Also stamped to the bottom plate (side of the balance assembly) with a capital letter; M in the form of a Royal crown. Balance action is absolutely tremendous in all positions (could not be any better) and is keeping excellent time with a sure, strong positive action - runs like a train. Winds extremely smoothly and fully (do not be afraid to fully wind, over-winding is the greatest horological myth!) Hand set operates smoothly and correctly - the pull up/push down action is very firm and true. Lovely un-worn original chrome plated 'onion' crown. Good original un-worn large silver chrome horseshoe shaped bow. Appraisal;- A very handsome and highly impressive Gentleman's top grade Railway type timepiece which as mentioned earlier was much loved and proudly cared for by the original owner - he will make a perfect gift and a heirloom to be enjoyed by your future generations! Ready to wear or display. Will be delivered in a new presentation box as shown and be very securely and safely packed.
