Rare 18th Century Oval Mahogany & Leather Writing Table Desk

LT Antiques are proud to present this extremely rare and wonderful mahogany oval 'rent table'. Offered in excellent showroom condition, this table would have been used by landlords and tenants to exchange rent. Designed for landlords to use in order to organise the rent monies and paperwork for properties they managed. This finely made table benefits from newly fitted hand dyed leathers, on the oval shaped top and on the writing slide. The table features very fine cross banding and a string inlaid top, above 3 functioning drawers and 5 dummy drawers with brass ring handles. Finished all around so it can be freestanding in a room/office. The cockbeaded drawers retain their original locks, one with working key. The central drawer pulls out to reveal a fully fitted inside with 6 small compartments with satinwood inlaid alphabetised labels. Inside here there are 3 secret compartments and 1 secret drawer. On square tapered fluted legs, with square cup casters. An exceptional piece of furniture.
