Rare Victorian 1889 Dog Walking Stick Cane Hallmarked Silver Pommel Bamboo Shaft Thornhill

This is an exceptionally rare cane, know as a dog walking cane. I've spoken to numerous dealers, husband included, who have dealt in canes for many years and they all say they've heard about these canes but never actual seen one. This is also in exceptional condition taking into account is purpose with the mechanism and chain being in excellent condition and fully working. Bamboo wood and hallmarked silver walking stick or cane with a Thornhill patented mechanism which releases a chain to attach to your dog collar. The silver was assayed in London as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1889 and makers mark for Walter Thornhill & Co of Bond Street, London. One of the top Victorian retailers of fine luxury goods who also held a Royal Warrant. The silver top is decorated with a repousse twist design mounted onto a bamboo shaft. Just above the ferrule is a brass mechanism which is stamped for Thornhill and has the patent number 14812. You twist the collar clockwise to reveal a steel chain with a dog clip to the end. The chain is suspended on a pin in the shaft. Personally I think you'd have to own a very well behaved dog for this to be practical. The ferrule is original and made of brass and steel.
