Description
I have seen a fair few genuine Tunbridge Ware stationary boxes over the years but this is the first example of the style that I have come across on a far smaller scale. Aside from a very small degree of loss to the very edges of the back top corners all of the veneer and inlays are in splendid condition. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock with a replacement working key supplied. The interior features the original two dividers. The lining to the interior is believed to be original with slight wear to some of the upper edges…as to be expected. Sadly the term Tunbridge Ware is now more often than not used to refer to a very wide range of inlay styles rather than very specific boxes made by a small number of manufacturers who produced what is most probably The most collected range of antique boxes produced from the very late 1700’s through to the first few decades of the 1900’s. The styles and methods of manufacture were regarded as unique to those manufacturers.
True collectors will be aware that this Is the real Mc Coy and equally aware of the rarity factor. Recommended.
