Wall Clock: Early 1890s Anglo American Striking Wall Clock

Fantastic Anglo-American Striking Wall Clock with a full glazed hinged front door. The handcrafted case being made in England (most probably London or Liverpool), and the movement being imported from the Us, a distinctive New Haven Clock Company mechanism. The clock is in excellent general condition for its age, which includes its highly decorative and nicely patinaed Mahogany case with Burr Walnut panelled door. Its architectural design includes an Ogee base and retains much of its original hand-crafted wooden embellishment, with upper case finials and a floral designed apex, turned side-columns and internal fretwork. At the base there is further crafted floral design and finials. In keeping with the general authentic design spec of these much sought-after wonderful old timepieces, the clocks garniture includes its authentic (probably original) case-back mirrored tablet secured to the rear of the drop-down aperture and a sculptured brass pendulum bob in the style of a mercurial shaped appendage. The clocks original ivory coloured metal dial has been professionally restored to an extremely high standard, with black painted Roman numerals and its original and unique “G.C Hardwick, Burton on Trent” legend, and is finished with a pair of original blued steel American Spade hands secured with a pinned collet. The dial is then surrounded by a spun brass bezel, mounted within the hinged glazed door fretwork. (Note: George Charles Hardwick, born 1864, was a watchmaker and prestigious clock and watch jeweller in Burton, and impressively, the brand still trades today as a quality general jeweller from their original outlet at 170 High Street, Burton!) The robust and highly efficient New Haven 8-day pendulum driven movement is set between two skeleton brass plates, the backplate being stamped with the New Haven logo. The clock strikes its original cast iron bell on the hours only and comes with a period authentic brass winding key.
