Description

ON OFFER:-
VERY FINE V.LARGE 19thc FLEMISH OIL PORTRAIT PAINTING OF FALSTAFF - SHAKESPEARE

This is a very very impressive mid 19th Century antique oil portrait painting depicting who we believe to be is Falstaff, who was the rather cheeky character from the famous Shakespeare tales.

This is a fabulously painted very large oil on canvas painting, dating to the mid 19th Century (circa 1850)

The work appears to have a very Flemish feel to it, and since undertaking a little research online, it is evident that the Dutch did/do love Shakespeare!

The fabulous image portrays this rather handsome portly looking fellow drinking a glass or tankard of wine whilst resting his leg on the period Oak stool within a tavern setting.

He appears to be boring the tall chap to tears with his tales, and going by Falstaff's arm gesture, he looks like he is being rather dictatorial to the poor chap.

Throughout the painting there are some very special touches....the Sword on the Wall, the old painting hanging in the distance and the excellent detailing in both Gentleman's period clothing.

Offered in overall stunning condition commensurate with age, having been relined during the past 20 years or so.

The frame is far newer than the painting but it is in keeping with the period style and it suits the painting wonderfully.

This very regal painting will be the talking point of any room of the house that you choose to place it, and it will also prove to be a very good investment!
