Description

This is an absolutely charming 19th century, Japanese reverse glass painting. Set in a garden landscape with trees and a mountain in the distance, the painting features an immaculately dressed lady and her child enjoying a happy encounter with a hovering dragonfly. (See below)

The painting has a fine deep gilt period frame, and an inner red slip frame.

The dragonfly in Japanese Culture:-
The dragonfly is the inspiration behind many works of art in Japan. They symbolize power, agility and victory. It is called the 'victory insect', or kachimushi, because of its hunting prowess and because it is known to never retreat.
