Description

This is a lovely engraving of the famous George Inn, Southwark, which is the only surviving galleried London coaching inn in existence and dates back to 1542. It is now owned by The National Trust. This is an early 20th century engraving of the building by the prolific Edward Sharland (1887-1967). He was born in Bristol in 1884 and was self taught. He travelled widely in Europe and did many architectural studies and landscapes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy &. the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool amongst others, and was a member of the Royal West of England Academy. It is signed in pencil lower right and bearing impressed seal to lower left
