Description

We are offering for sale this well executed half length pastel portrait of a WWI Army Officer Lieutenant Bryan Barton Cubitt (born 1892, died 26th Sept 1915 in France).

The artist has signed the pastel in the lower right hand corner with the sitters surname preceded by the letter ' L ' denoting his rank as Lieutenant.

Records confirm Bryan Barton Cubitt was born in Witton, Norfolk, United Kingdom in 1892 to Helen Elizabeth and Bernard Cubitt.

The Portraits backing board bears an old label of a framer, gilder and restorer by the name of Dimmock & Son, of 66 London Street, Norwich.

There is a black and white photo copied on to a website where you can add details of WW1 soldiers at https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/1047770

The eight pointed star on the officers cap badge confirms he is in the East Yorkshire Regiment.

ABOUT THE REGIMENT:-
The East Yorkshire Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army first formed in 1685 as Sir William Clifton's Regiment of Foot. It was amalgamated with the West Yorkshire Regiment in 1958 and with the Green Howards and The Duke of Wellington's Regiment to form The Yorkshire Regiment in 2006.

FRAME:-
The portrait has been newly framed in a 3 1/2' gilt frame, which complements the colouring very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
