I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks which are mostly limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including silver, ceramics and glass. I have a shop in Abingdon on Thames, about 5 miles from Oxford, which is open by appointment but my business is mostly online. My website has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where most of my items are shown.

Description

Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935) was a Scottish artist who made his name with his illustrations of birds, published in Lord Lilford's "Coloured Figures of the Birds of the British Isles" in 1887. He worked in watercolour and exhibited at the Royal Academy many times. His watercolours now sell for thousands of pounds. He also produced many prints of his work, some in limited editions. This is not a limited edition print, but it is signed by the artist in pencil lower left and dated in the print 1931- so it is one of his later pieces. Described as a "Facsimile in Colour" and entitled "Old and New" verso. It appears to be in its original frame and bears the retailers label for John Matheson and Son, Edinburgh.
