Description

An attractive set of three ship scenes from the early Victorian period in original condition. One (as is written on the reverse) depicts a Corvette while the other two we think are of sloops-of-war. All the ships were lightly armed warships mainly used for coastal patrols or participating in show-the-flag missions. The edges are a little frayed with the colours charmingly faded. The Thomas Mclean 26 Haymarket London labels are intact to the reverses.

Thomas McLean was a print dealer and publisher who followed the common practice of exhibiting paintings as publicity for the forthcoming engravings. In the mid-1860s, he began holding annual exhibitions of water-colour drawings, and quickly became known as one of the leading dealers in London.

Two of the pictures have small tears which are stable having been repaired previously however the colour on all is good and they are rather attractive in size and subject.

Price is for all 3 delivered.
