Fine quality dome top coromandel perfume bottle casket in very good condition. Coromandel was one of THE most expensive veneers used by the antique box makers, such was the cost that the veneer was quite often only applied to the top and front of the boxes. This particular box features coromandel to all aspects of the exterior. All veneer is original and complete as is all of the applied decoration and the brass dome top fixings. The lid closes perfectly square on the original hinges. Original lock (Key for decorative purposes only). The interior features the original lining to the lid interior in extremely good condition. The base section comprises of a matching set of three perfume bottles. I believe that the screw on tops are solid silver but there are no hallmarks in evidence. The glass bases are all in marvellous condition, all have nice fitting stoppers. One of the tops has been squashed slightly but as can be seen from the photographs it does little to detract. The base section of the box has been lined throughout with solid mahogany and obviously was made in a very precise manner…Although the bottles are certainly a set they vary VERY slightly in terms of width and the apertures within the retaining mahogany section has been cut accordingly. In addition all of the mahogany has been cut in such a manner that no screws, glue or fixing pins have been used therefore future generations of owners will find it a great deal easier to maintain the item in tip top condition. A minor detail for the immediate owner possibly but an aspect that could well prove to be greatly appreciated in years to come. A fine quality item.
