Description

Highly attractive large tea caddy that cannot fail to command attention. Measures approximately 14” x 8” x 7”. It is not often that such a large caddy of the style comes along that features such a large degree of parquetry work. There has been some restoration to the edge trim mainly to the base but I do not think that detracts greatly given the inlays to all aspects of the caddy exterior AND interior. The condition of all veneers and inlays is superb. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock, key for decorative purposes only. The base section comprises of a central area for a bowl. I believe that the wood that accommodates the bowl is a later addition and there is no doubting whatsoever that the bowl is later but it fits well and looks better than nothing at all until better is perhaps found to fill the void. The two lids for the storage sections are certainly original and feature the exact same veneers as all other inlays. They are, and always were void of a central knobs and are simply lifted off to access the tea storage sections both of which are in extremely clean condition and show no evidence of any lining ever being present. The inlay to the lid interior is in excellent condition and certainly ‘makes’ the interior. A beautiful piece that would display well in any setting.
