Description

An exquisite burr walnut marquetry side cabinet. A real statement piece of the finest quality Victorian manufacturer. Beautiful burr walnut veneers have been selected and finely inlaid with floral marquetry panels, cross banding and stringing in a variety of woods including king wood, tulip, walnut and box. The fluted pilasters at the front are adorned with beautifully carved tops and bottoms. There is a subtle amount of brass work just to high-light certain areas. The 2 doors open (key present) to reveal a good storage space. The hardware, hinges, locks and bolts are of the finest quality and the doors edges are even veneered in the same high grade tight Burr Walnut veneer that adorns the whole Cabinet. Makers stamp in the back for 'Benjamin Taylor & Sons' see blurb below.

Benjamin Taylor & Sons are recorded in the Dictionary of English Furniture Makers as working at 167 Great Dover Street, London until 1873. They were Cabinet Makers, Upholsterers, Chair makers and Undertakers and took out Sun Insurance policies on the 23rd December 1820 for their premises.

We have sympathetically lightly restored and waxed the cabinet to bring out its full beauty so it is in wonderful condition for the home.
