Description

A Lowestoft soft paste porcelain coffee cup, made circa 1770 - 1780, hand painted in underglaze blue with the "Three Peony and Rock" pattern and with a type 2 lattice border to the inner rim. The applied scroll handle is also decorated with a blue scrolling motif. Unmarked.

This is a particularly well painted example in very good antique condition.

Declaration

Breckland Antiques has clarified that the Lowestoft Porcelain Coffee Cup, Three Peony and Rock Pattern, circa 1770-1780 (LA214425) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1770-1780.

Condition

Very good antique condition. There is a minute flea bite to the rim and some minor glaze fritting to the inner foot rim. The glaze is somewhat bubbly to the inside surface of the cup and there is kiln grit present in the inner base and under the foot rim. There are no cracks or hairlines and no signs of restoration.
