This is a lovely 19th Century antique Staffordshire Bone China pastille burner. Made at a time when life was less than fragrant these used to burn "pastilles" or lozenges made from charcoal, saltpetre and herbs. Usually in the form of castles or quaint cottages they were used to scent a room. This one is a castle with a drummer boy to the side.
