Description

This Staffordshire earthenware ale mug has lovely wide Georgian proportions being wider than it is tall. The mug is covered in treacle glaze to the outside with applied figures of seated ale drinkers to the front and back.There is a naturalistic handle to one side shaped like a lopped branch. The interior of the mug has a lovely pale blue glaze which contrasts beautifully with the exterior treacle glaze.

Declaration

Wessex House Antiques has clarified that the Staffordshire treacle glazed ale mug (PV/E/6100 / LA128240) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1820.

Condition

The mug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is some minor rubbing to the top lip which is commensurate with its age. Please inspect the photographs closely to assess the condition and quality of this handsome piece.
