Description

This is a charming Staffordshire figure group with red riding hood seated by a tree with a basket of goods whilst the wolf looks on. The tree is hollow to hold the spills which would look like branches when inserted. The figure has been hand painted in overglaze enamels. There is a painter's mark to the underside of the base.

Declaration

Wessex House Antiques has clarified that the Staffordshire Spill Vase of Red Riding Hood (PV/H/13112/108 / LA127158) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1865.

Condition

There is a small chip to the underside of the base at the front and there are general surface glazing cracks to the front of the base and the rear of the figure. There is some paint wear to the overglaze enamels on red riding hood's cloak and a tiny bit on the tree. Please inspect the photographs closely to assess the condition and quality of this lovely figure.
