Description

This attractive antique chest of drawers dates from c.1870 and is constructed from mahogany, some solid, some veneered over solid wood. The chest is of large proportions and consists of two small drawers over three long drawers that are graduated in size. The drawers retain what we believe to be their lovely original wooden swag handles, which are very unusual. The drawers retain their locks and escutcheons, but please note that no key is present. The chest has a stepped up top and is supported on turned bun feet.

Overall this handsome piece is in good useable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the chest is overall a little faded. The top has some scratching, and there are some areas of chipping and old repair to the veneers. There is some slight wood shrinkage cracking to the sides. One of the handles on the second long drawer has been broken and repaired at some point.
