Description

Rare and impressive arts & crafts fireplace with overmantle mirror finely carved in walnut with ebonised turned supports embellished with carved flower head spiral bosses and amboyna panels.

Typical of the work of Bruce Talbot and Alfred Waterhouse working in conjunction with the Gillows workshops, Lancaster, sold by Libertys of London.

In untouched original condition with 20 Tiffany favrile glass tiles each 4" x 4" with dragon motif bordering the fireplace aperture designed by Tiffany studios, New York.

Planished copper canopy and copper fireguard with registration mark, 687357.

Total height 124" x 77" width x 12" depth.
Overmantle 68" tall, Fireplace 56" high.
Fireplace aperture 47" x 41"

More academic research can be undertaken to determine further attributions of this unique piece which was acquired from an old English family estate from their ancestral northern Scottish home.
