Description

This attractive wash-stand dates from c.1820. It is constructed from mahogany with nice satinwood string inlay and rosewood cross-banding to the top. The wash-stand has a hinged fold-out top, which opens to reveal a ceramic blue & white wash bowl in the centre, flanked on either side by recessed compartments. Beneath this is a lower tier with a small drawer underneath. The piece is supported on tapering legs. The drawer retains its original brass handle. We believe that the wash-bowl may be original to the piece as it certainly has some considerable age and fits nicely. It sits loosely in the frame and can be removed.
