Description

This is a pair of 19th century early Victorian, hand-blown, cut glass double lip rinsers. Rinsers were used to rest the small wine glasses used at the time in water so that they were clean for the next wine to be served. The two lips are thought to allow a rinser to be shared between two people or to allow two different wine glasses to be rinsed at the same time.

The rinsers are in excellent condition for their age. This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear to both the rims of the bowls and to the rims of the feet consistent with some 180 years of use.

The rinsers have bucket-shaped bowls measuring 11.7 cm (4.7 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are plain save for a basal band of panel cuts. The rinsers have plain bases which show polished out pontil marks. The rinsers are 9.6 cm (3.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. Dimensions vary slightly from rinser to rinser as is to be expected of hand-blown sets.

They are made from English lead metal and each weighs 525 g. (~ 1 lb. 2 oz.).
