Description

This imposing pair of old Sheffield Plate candlesticks were made around 1810 and probably by TJ &N Creswick. These makers stamped their trademark portcullis symbol together with a registration mark beneath the detachable sconces and whilst the registration mark is clearly stamped only part of the portcullis can but I think sufficient to identify.

The candlesticks are tall and imposing. They are in very good condition with just a little of the underlying copper showing. The sconces are detachable and the candlesticks have been heavily loaded giving good stability (total weight is 80 ounces). There is attractive gadroon decoration to the base, stem and sconce. Overall a fine pair of Georgian silver plated candlesticks.
