Description

This is a very ornate and imposing pair of antique Georgian candlesticks made by Smith Tate Nicholson & Hoult and hallmarked in Sheffield 1811.

They are in very good condition with no repair or damage and have detachable sconces. Hallmarks are identical on both the candlesticks and sconces.

Decorated for the entire length having gadroon and shell decoration and reeded decoration to part of the stems. On each of the sconces there is an armorial of a standing lion holding a standard with tassels and on the base of each candlestick there is an armorial now quite faint but appears to be that of a church or house surrounded by a wreath. Hallmarks are clearly struck on all 4 pieces. The sticks are very heavy giving good stability.

Truly a fine pair of Georgian candlesticks.
