Description

This lovely standard lamp dates from the turn of the twentieth century. It has a lovely art nouveau brass tripod base, an onyx middle tier, and an adjustable telescopic inner column. It has been re-wired and is in good working order, although we would recommend that it be checked over by a qualified electrician prior to use. The lamp retains a shade of a similar age, which is possibly original.

Declaration

Slade's Antiques has clarified that the Edwardian Art Nouveau brass & onyx standard lamp (13027 / LA16265) is antique and it's date/period of manufacture is 1910.

Condition

Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear as might be expected, and some tarnishing and slight surface corrosion to the metalwork. The piece would benefit from being cleaned and polished. The bottom central plate is dented at one side. As is mentioned above the lamp has been re-wired and it appears that a wooden block was fitted underneath the bulb holder at this time for safety reasons. The block is loose on the base. It is good working order, but we would recommend that it be checked over by a qualified electrician prior to use. The shade is overall grubby and faded and the inner lining is ripped and holed in places.
