Description

This is a very fine Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) sectional carved figure of a fruit seller who is holding in his hand i think a peach or similar soft fruit. there is a signed red plaque set into base but i am unable to photograph any better or read the inscription.

Described as a sectional okimono it has over the years been glued at certain sections to stop it coming apart. The carving is delightful with a lovely smiling expression on his face various leaf carvings in his tunic on both the front and back, including one on the base.

I do not think there are any missing parts (not always easy to spot), but i can see there has been some damage to the rope handle of the bag he carries in his left hand, which does have an inscription which i am sure someone will be able to read. you can see old glue residue. around his middle. all in all a delightful figure.
