Description

A fine and impressive pair of antique early Victorian sterling silver barrel shaped beakers; an addition to our diverse wine and drinks related silverware collection.

These fine antique early Victorian sterling silver beakers are realistically modelled in the form of a barrel.

Once separated, each beaker is encircled with impressive reed decoration reproducing the bilge, quarter and head hoop of a barrel, in addition to engraved vertical stave joints.

The body of each beaker is ornamented with a bright cut engraved crest* depicting a wyvern** with wings elevated on a wheel erect.

These impressive Victorian beakers have gilded interiors.

* This crest pertains to the Somerville family.

** The wyvern is a mythical, dragon-like beast with two legs, feet like eagles' claws, two wings, and a body which curves seamlessly into a tail.

There is a subtle difference in height between the two beakers as one incorporates the push fit sleeve.
