The tea caddy is engraved to depict bird and bamboo scenes.The tea caddy has a removable lid, and sits on a circular base, which is stamped with the Whiting Manufacturing Co mark, "Sterling", "707", & "C". Argentum Antiques & Collectables Ltd has clarified that the Whiting Silver Aesthetic Movement Japonesque American Tea Caddy C.1880 (1395 / LA163487) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Circa 1880.
The engraved aesthetic movement design is crisp. The tea caddy has the usual minor surface marks, and scratches commensurate with age. A few pin prick dings appear to have been professionally knocked back into shape, as evidenced by light silversmith hammer markings near to the base. In summary, a beautiful tea caddy in good shape and condition. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
