This is an attractive pair of early Victorian silver tapersticks made by John Tongue and hallmarked in Birmingham 1841. They are in very good condition and stand firmly on raised and flared circular bases. There is overall repousse decoration and hallmarks are clearly struck.
Tapersticks were either to hold tapers to be used in wax sealing or for burning aromatic tapers at the table.
