Description

This is a fine Georgian sterling silver muffineer or small caster made by specialist caster maker Samuel Wood and hallmarked in London 1760 (examples of Samuel Wood's silverwork on exhibition in the V&A Museum, London).

It is in very good condition and made with a heavy gauge of silver. The pull off lid fits tightly, is attractively pierced and is finished with a flame finial. The body is engraved with a mythical animal (griffin?) and the muffineer stands firmly on a raised circular base.

An attractive and good quality muffineer as one would expect from this specialist Georgian silversmith (NB any shadows shown in photographs are. Merely reflections).
