Description

This is a very elegant solid sterling silver caster, dating from the reign of George III.

Clearly hallmarked on the base, and with partial hallmarks on the lid, for London 1783, with the maker's mark possibly that of Thomas Shepherd. The body of the caster is in a simple baluster form with pull off cover and flame finial. Unsurprisingly, given its age, there are surface abrasions and there is a small split in the base of the lid, completely hidden from view when the lid is in place.
