Description

This is a fine pair of antique Georgian sterling silver sugar casters made by specialist caster maker Samuel welder and both identically hallmarked for London 1728.

They have been made with a substantial gauge of silver and sit firmly on a raised circular base. There are bell shaped finials to the pull off lids which fit tightly. Hallmarks are to the bases and partially to the lids. They are clearly hallmarked for London 1728.

Condition is very good just a couple of minor faults. One one of the casters there is a small hole in the outer skin of the base though this does not affect the inner skin and one of the small piercings in the lid has very slight damage (hardly noticeable but mentioned for accuracy). Both could be repaired if felt necessary. Apart from that I can see no evidence of any repair or damage.

Samuel Welder was a specialist Georgian silver caster maker and is highly collectable.
