Description

This is a lovely and elegant lidded ewer made by John James Keith and hallmarked in London 1847. Keith was a highly respected silversmith and samples of his work are exhibited in museums including the Victoria and Albert in London. He ceased trading in 1847 so this piece is one produced in his final year and in fact he died the following year 1848.

A ewer of great elegance with sweeping lines and a wide double scrolled handle. The lid fits perfectly and has a thumbpiece. The ewer sits firmly on a raised circular base and there is banded decoration to the body complementing that on the base. Hallmarks are clearly struck on the body and lid.

A very fine Victorian ewer from a well respected silversmith.
