Description

This is a fine pair of antique Georgian sterling silver trencher salts hallmarked in London 1728. They were made by Edward Wood who was a specialist maker of salts and who was the master of David Hennel.

They are identically hallmarked and in very good condition. One of the salts has an old repair to the bowl but the hallmarks are still legible. The salts sit firmly on octagonal shaped bases and made with a thick gauge of silver.

Both salts bear an armorial with a Latin motto and on the reverse an inscription with the date of 1729.

These early George II silver salts are offered at a discounted price to reflect the repair mentioned although it is not terribly noticeable.
